PictureIt's not a diet, it's a healthy way of eating!
Part 1 of 2:

The Paleo Way of Eating:

Unless you have been hibernating for the last few years there have been some very popular new crazes in nutrition. The most widely accepted and popular has been eating Paleo and going Gluten free (a hint for part 2). The first blog post in this mini series will be on eating Paleo. This is intended to give you the basics on what you should know to keep yourself informed on the latest trends.

With many “diets” out there, Dr. Griffith personally likes this one because it isn’t about cutting calories, restricting meals, or crazily drinking only lemon water with cayenne pepper. Paleo is about eating specific foods that many of us already consume on a daily basis. Below is a limited list of what TO eat and what NOT to eat for a beginner wanting to start the Paleo way of eating.

Eat this:
  • Wild Caught fish and seafood
  • Fresh vegetables and fruit (organic if possible)
  • Eggs (range free if possible)
  • Grass fed meats (Dr. Griffiths prefers lean meats because of the use of higher fat oils and increased nuts/seeds in the diet)
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Coconut oil, avocado oil, flaxseed oil, Olive oil.

Not this:
  • Dairy (milk, cheese)
  • Anything processed
  • Refined Sugar
  • Refined Vegetable Oils
  • Starchy foods (potatoes-Yes even mashed)
  • No peanuts
  • Cereal/refined grains

Again, this is a limited list that will get you started with the Paleo way of eating. There are numerous resources that will give you a comprehensive list if you have a specific food items in question.

Dr. Griffith always recommends consulting with a primary health care provider before dramatically changing your diet. At Movement Chiropractic and Wellness we strive to offer not only excellent chiropractic care, but make it a priority to answer your healthcare and nutrition questions.
