Dr. Griffith is Functional Movement Systems certified which allows him to use the functional movement screen to asses dysfunction, motor control impairment, and an individuals movement patterns.
Movement is not just the muscles moving joints or bones, it is a complex information pathway between your nervous system and the rest of the body. Assessments of your system (posture, balance, strength, mobility) and how it functions (movement) can help determine what is the cause of your pain or dysfunction. Correction of the system dysfunction gives your body the ability to function properly. If not assessed or treated correctly you foster dysfunctional mechanics which drastically increase your chance for you injury.
The Functional Movement Assessment is a screening process that identifies an individuals movement pattern. A poor movement pattern is caused by muscle strength and mobility imbalances. Strength and mobility imbalances cause your body to take the "path of least resistance" which lead to compensatory patterns and a much higher risk of injury.
For example if you constantly sit at your computer all day, your pectoralis muscles become overly tightened and inhibited, while your upper back muscles become over stretched and facilitated. If these imbalances are not found and corrected you are almost guaranteed to experience pain or tightness, develop a postural or movement imbalance, and sustain an injury.
Identification and correction of these imbalances is the first line of defense in injury prevention.
